Reading the Classics

I enjoy reading classics, but it often takes me awhile to get through them because I intersperse my reading with many other books. Most books I fly through, but I like to spend a little more time digesting a classic. Because of that, however, I only get through 6-7 classics a year. Sounds pretty good until you think of the sheer number of classics out there!

On a whim, I decided to set myself a goal of reading a classic each month this year. Problem is, I set this goal only a week before the end of the month. I was already a quarter of the way through Emma, so I've been focusing on reading that--it just isn't happening! I haven't picked up another book (though I'd like to), but when I combine all of our schooling and housekeeping etc. that I'm kept busy with, I just really don't get much time to read.

I have 4 days left of the month and only half of Emma yet read...perhaps my goal will evolve from one classic a month to 12 this year. Maybe I'll need to pick an easier-to-fly-through classic for next month!

  1. 12 classics in a year still sounds like a lot. I get to read more now that my children are older, but it wasn't as easy when they were little. Good luck with it! Don't you love Emma? I see Life of Pi in your sidebar - that's what I'm currently reading. Just at the beginning, but liking it so far.
